DIXIE DINING "This wonderful new collection from Collector’s Choice Music is slated to be released on August 26th...I have always been a fan of Jan and Dean — their approach was innocent and fun-loving, although their own personal story was not always sunshine and surf’s up. This 2-disc compilation includes all the massive summertime hits plus a good number of rarities. In all, some 42 tracks make for an ocean full of wonderful memories. "

THE SUN "You must have the new Dennis Wilson Pacific Ocean Blue/Bambu collection. It’s great to have all the stuff that wasn’t on the original record. His voice is so rough compared to the other Beach Boys. "

LA TIMES "At last week's Brian Wilson taping (to be posted Sept. 1), a fan asked what he regretted most. Wilson responded straightforwardly with a laundry list of the drugs he'd used. 'They messed with my brain,' he said, 'so I regret that.'"

MVD “Most people imagine California during the sixties to be an idyllic peaceful and highly creative place in which some of the greatest music of the sixties and beyond was created. In many ways this is true but there was also a dark undercurrent that took hold during the late sixties and it stretched out and infiltrated what many people to be ‘America's Band’ The Beach Boys when drummer Dennis Wilson became involved with a cult led by Charles Manson called ‘The Family’. This documentary details the Beach Boys rise to success into context with rarely seen footage of the band, while it exposes the Summer of Love's darkest side and investigates the connections between some of the most controversial characters of that period (Anton La Vey, Kenneth Anger, and Brian Wilson) and their connection to the Manson Family. The film includes interviews with Kim Fowley, Don Was and the creative force behind the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson. The film which was originally released in 1997 has been unavailable for some time and this release on DVD will be highly anticipated.”

UNCUT "An album of poetry and sparse music arrangements co-produced by Brian Wilson and Stephen John Kalkinich in 1966 has to come to light, and will be released in October. Kalinich was the first artist to be signed to Beach Boy's Brother Records label, and recorded the album 'A World Of Peace Must Come' over the course of one night at Brian Wilson's Bel Air house. However the recorded tapes were lost, only found 20 years after, and a release finally possible now through Light In The Attic Records. Kalinich has previously contributed lyrics to songs such as "Rainbows" which appeared on the recently reissued Dennis Wilson album 'Pacific Ocean Blue' and "Gettin' In Over My Head", performed by Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney. A World Of Peace Must Come will be accompanied with a booklet of all of Kalinich's poems, as well as liner notes by Beach Boys archivist Alan Boyd. The album is set for release on October 6. "

***EDIT*** scans removed at request of the record label.

I finally received an advance copy of Brian Wilson's new solo album, "That Lucky Old Sun." It was well worth the wait. I noticed awhile back that someone on the BlueBoard made a comment that the record label was only sending out advance copies of "TLOS" as a digital download. That may well be the case in the UK, but here in the USA Capital/EMI have thankfully pressed up a few advance discs. This is a truly great album. While the demo version that leaked some time back was good, this is amazing. The fully fleshed out arrangements are wonderful. I probably listened to this album about four times straight through yesterday I was enjoying it so much. Too bad I did not get the chance to see "TLOS" performed live.

One sneak-peak: there's a hidden track #18, a unique riff on the "TLOS" theme; too bad it only lasts about 40 seconds. I don't want to give too much away. You should have the joy that I did upon first listening.

MASS LIVE "Tuesday's Brian Wilson concert at the Calvin Theatre didn't get off to the best start, as the famously troubled genius from The Beach Boys took the stage, sat behind his keyboard and said 'I forgot the city. What city is this?'"

HARTFORD COURANT "Brian Wilson was, in a way, a figurehead at his own show Tuesday night at the Calvin Theatre in Northampton: He didn't always sing, and he rarely played an instrument. He often just sat on a stool behind his keyboard and listened to his rip-roaring band mine the Beach Boys catalog."

BROOKLYNVEGAN "In response to several disgruntled fans, Brian Wilson and his wife and manager Melinda Wilson have decided to refund fans'tickets for his July 11th New York City concert at Hammerstein Ballroom. Fans complained that the show, which was a benefit for the Stand Up For A Cure cancer benefit, ran up to several hundred dollars but had poor visibility for some seats, and only contained a 75-minute performance by Wilson. Wilson performed with a scaled-back band, and his setlist lacked Beach Boys or solo rarities."

GUARDIAN "Brian Wilson is reportedly so upset about fans criticising a recent gig, he has offered to reimburse them their expensive ticket fees out of his own pocket. Great news for disgruntled concertgoers, but could the ex-Beach Boy be setting a dangerous precedent?"

METRO TIMES "From "Surf City" and "Drag City" to "Dead Man's Curve" and "The Little Old Lady (from Pasadena)," each one of these Hemi hits is guaranteed to light up your Christmas tree every time. Red light! Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys helped Jan and Dean write some of their hits and he sung on them as well. Yellow light! Jan and Dean's original recording of "Bucket ‘T' " smokes the Who's later Moon-equipped cover version. Green light! Jan and Dean wrote some of the hippest lyrics ever, as evidenced by this suave little gem from 1964: "They wear organdy dresses and high-button shoes, they read Playboy magazine and Hot Rod News."

GUARDIAN "Brian Wilson- Perhaps the epitome of perfectionism, Wilson's studio behaviour is now legendary. Work on 1966 single Good Vibrations spanned a reported 17 recording sessions in four different studios, used over 90 hours of magnetic recording tape and cost a reputed $50,000 to make. Two years later Wilson spiralled into depression after aborting his Smile album."

HUNTERSVILLE HERALD "That's the story, and it's one that Cornelius' David Beard -- Beach Boys scholar, historian and all-around guru of good vibrations, has kept alive. Through the publication Endless Summer Quarterly (ESQ,) a Brian Wilson/Beach Boys/Jan & Dean fan magazine, Beard feeds his readership of music aficionados tales of summertime bliss all year 'round. In his 15 years working for the four-times-a-year magazine,Beard has established himself, albeit accidentally, as a leading authority on the Beach Boys and several related artists."

PROVIDENCE JOURNAL "And all through it, Wilson sat as though he were the least impressed person of the announced attendance of 1,200 in the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Still, the very life of his music, and the fact that he thought enough to bring it back, were perhaps testimony enough to what he was really feeling."

PASTE "I'm in Rhode Island for the first time in my life. We drove past the harbor where a magenta sun was dropping below the harbor and men in white pants were politely sipping strong drinks. The opening night of Newport was held in the International Tennis Hall of Fame, where a pristine grass court made me want to play tennis, even though Beach Boy Brian Wilson was about to take the stage.
Some of my first musical memories include singing along with my older brother's Beach Boys records as a very young kid. "Surfin' Safari," "Catch a Wave," "Little Deuce Coup"—these were some of the earliest songs I ever loved. And for an hour and a half, Brian Wilson ran through a slew of them—or rather his crack did while he struggled to keep up. There were at least a half dozen voices on every song, 10 other musicians carrying the load for a legend whose seen better days. His voice, when it was alone wandered off key. He introduced the songs with an almost autistic literalness: "Now we're going to play a slow song." "Now we're going to play a surf song." "Now we're going to speed things up."

But this is Brian Wilson we're talking about, and the very aged, formal and appreciative audience was more than willing to forgive. When he played "Do You Want To Dance," I was just as ready to forgive. So many great songs.

And in keeping with the New England spirit, I ate my first quahog—oyster mixed with saugage, bread crumbs, peppers and God knows what else. Yummy stuff. Tomorrow I get to see some combination of The Black Crowes, Cat Power, the brothers Marley, Richie Havens, Cowboy Junkies, Jim James, She & Him, Steve Earle & Allison Moorer, the Young @ Heart Chorus, Jakob Dylan and Willy Mason, all with the beautiful harbor in the background. I think I'm going to like Rhode Island."

UNDERCOVER "`A World of Peace Must Come`, an album recorded by Brian Wilson in 1969 based on the poetry of Stephen John Kalinich, will finally have an official release in October.

The album was intended to bring together Stevie’s words and Brian’s music. Stevie had signed to the Beach Boys Brother Records label just a year earlier.

“It was done like a home recording,” Stevie tells Undercover News. “Brian co-produced it with me. We started it around ‘69 after talking about it in ’68”.

The album was Stevie’s idea. “I had it as a concept and recorded some of it myself and then I brought it to Brian. He did ‘America I Love You’ with me first”.

Stevie has fond memories of the recording sessions. “I loved making it,” he tells Undercover. “”We had a blast and fun. We recorded most of it at Brian’s house but we went to other studios like Wally Heider and Sunset Sound to work on parts of it. I have fond memories and it was as important today as the day we recorded it”.

So why has it remained unreleased for all these years' “Partially getting someone really interested and deciding in myself to get it out there,” he says.

A World Of Peace Must Come will feature:

Candy face Lane
Birth of God
Deer, Elk, Raven
The Magic Hand (Fury Palm)
Lonely Man
Be Still
Walk Alone With Love
A World Of Peace Must Come
If You Knew
America I Know You"
