MALASIA STAR "AS expected, Capitol/EMI Music Catalog Marketing will salute two of the Beach Boys’ most iconic releases with new editions this summer. First up on June 27 is a new CD single to mark the 40th anniversary of Good Vibrations, to be followed on Aug 29 by a 40th anniversary package of Pet Sounds. Beyond the original 45 single version, Good Vibrations includes an edit with snippets from various sessions, an alternate take, an instrumental and a live rehearsal version recorded in August 1967 in Honolulu. The track’s original B-side, Let’s Go Away for Awhile, is also featured. In addition to a limited double vinyl edition, Pet Sounds will be presented in a CD/DVD package with mono, stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound mixes. Among the extras is a mono mix of Hang on to Your Ego left off the original album, behind-the-scenes documentaries and interviews with key figures, an unreleased colour promotional film for Good Vibrations and a clip from an unreleased BBC documentary, Rhythm of Life. AARP MAGAZINE has a review of the great Brian Wilson biography Catch a Wave.
"After reading Carlin's book, it turns out that what I didn't know about the Beach Boys could fill a book. Which is precisely what Carlin has done. This comprehensive and detailed account of the Wilson saga is a step above the standard rock bio. Here is a book that can be read on many levels, including cultural history, psychological study, or even as a crash course in ethnomusicology. "

The WATCH TOWER label did all fans a favor by releasing this incredible box set of live stereo soundboard recordings from Brian Wilson's 2001 summer tour. If I remember correctly, Brian Wilson was the opening act for Paul Simon. Good luck finding an original copy of this now; it first came out ca. 2002.
More pictures of this awesome set can be found HERE, HERE, HERE.

Things make sense to me again," Brian Wilson states as he looks forward to headlining the Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay, Australia on July 22-23.

OREGON LIVE Lyle Ritz, jazz ukulele player, discusses working with Brian Wilson: “"It was just wonderful. A lot of product came out, some of it very good. And it taught me more about music. Almost every time I worked with him, Brian Wilson had a new harmonic sequence for the bass."

So. Cal. Group The Tyde Features Nelson Bragg Of Brian Wilson's Band

PLUG IN MUSIC "The Tyde are a band that could exist nowhere but California, somehow managing to capture the South Orange County longboarding culture of their suburban Golden State musical forebears – The Wilson brothers and Jan & Dean - with the U.K. Creation Records sound of the early-‘90s. The Tyde answer the questions: What if Galaxie 500 (or Prefab Sprout, for that matter) had been beach bums? What if the shoegazers had all been staring at their Vans?"
