Interesting- though they used my art, I did not design the package...when I did see it I thought they did a pretty cool little thing.

First, I am fairly certain the top and bottom photos are not from the same show, since there is an obvious difference in Mike's skin tone, and the mic stands are silver in the bottom photo, and black in the top photo.

Second, I was at the National Mall in Washington DC on July 4th, 1985, where the Beach Boys played that day. REO Speedwagon was not on the ticket there that day. I didn't see REO live till about 2o years later, in NY. However, 9 days later, on July 13th, 1985 they stopped in Philadelphia to play at the US Leg of Live Aid. They performed two of their songs featuring members of the Beach Boys and Paul Shaffer (of Late Night with David Letterman, left center of the bottom photo, in gray slacks).
I feel confident the bottom photo is from the July 13th show in '85, but the top photo just seems more recent. (were there wireless mics in '85?) I could be wrong on the top photo.

Ah, the world would be a most tedious place if we all agreed on everything. Maybe I'm wrong about "GIOMH"... but when I got my preview copy, I played it for some weeks, trying to get into it, past the problems of composition, performance, mixing and above all, Brian's truly disinterested vocals. Didn't happen. Who knows, maybe the ComGuide update will make the scales fall from my eyes.

Or maybe... not. :-)

Sorry to disagree, but if you look closely these ARE the links for the new vinyl re-issues; product details says "vinyl." Also, I AM certain that these vinyl discs are out for sale. I've seen them in two separate records stores. So, go out and buy!

Nope.

Both of those listings are for the Japanese 2008 CDs with reproduced miniature vinyl LP-sleeve and NOT for the 2009 vinyl LPs. They were supposed to have come out this past Tuesday but they are not any of the places that they normally would. It looks like they may have been pushed back a bit.

I was a young kid when i heard my first beach boys song.
And from there i started to sing the tunes of some songs of the beach boys.
When i heard the dennis past away in 1983 i was sad and i prayed for the family and in 1998 another Great Beach Boy Past away i couldn't believe it.
My prayers went out to the family again along with with the beach boys. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Wow. The Brian Wilson thing was just so... wonderful. How lucky you are to be a part of such a great guy that made some really good music that got into your bones. Fun great music, that well was unbelivable against the other music at the time. His music was honest and heart felt. You could hum a tune and get happy real fast. What more is there. rythims and beat that made a grey day really good. What a story you can share with your kids some day...

So "Poacher Jake" isn't affiliated w/ Word, he's just some random dude who posted to their website? If so, then Word gets a pass. The underlying reason why I dislike the mag is that I did actually buy a copy and it was not very good. As I've never gone on Word's website I didn't realize that they allow readers to post there. You learn something new everyday.

I recently purchased Brian Wilson's "That Lucky Old Sun" and I can't stop listening to it. The album is a Tour de Force spectacular, celebrating life and love in Southern California. I was surprised by the power of Brian's voice - at 65 he can still belt it out - but more impressive are the beautiful melodies he has crafted. The kind of melodies that would make even Sir Paul feel jealous. I am in awe of Mr. Wilson’s talent and salute him for the achievement that is “That Lucky Old Sun.” What a treat to hear the heart of The Beach Boys alive and beating strong. Thank you, Sir Brian.

Funny how this crap starts up from almost nowhere. I just found three other reports on The Beach Boys appearance. None of them mention one tiny little bit of trouble with the staging. I know from the times I've seen the band, including The Washington DC Mall on the 4th of July with Ringo Starr, they had a complete stage change between them and any other act. They are allowed to control their own image, aren't they? Perhaps this country DJ from WRWD didn't like The Beach Boys to start with, or had some ulterior motive for his attack. Maybe the show was delayed as they changed the stage, he saw the flag coming down, and drew a biased conclusion. But nobody else seems to have had a problem.

I catered for Terrapin Restaurant in Rhinebeck last night at the Dutchess County Fair for The Beach Boys, and despite the nerves and the work, had an even more amazing time than I had expected!

They were a lot of fun and the music was awesome! The range of people there in the largest crowd the fair has seen I am told was quite a sight.

And the topper to my evening? I got a big hug from Al Jardine who told me Terrapin's dinner was the best meal they had had at a fair in 45 years!!!
